Every few weeks I pack away a number of outfits of Soren’s (along with shedding a little tear). And in my head I know that it’s pointless buying stylish clothes since they don’t last all that long. But how can one resist when they look so darn cute? The Country Road collection is my favourite here in Australia and their spring/summer range is very tempting.
I’ve spoken before about a place that I love called Sourced Grocer. They make the freshest food and it always inspires me to try something similar. This is one such salad which I’ve adapted slightly. Quinoa salad (using white and black quinoa) with apple, celery, grapes, raisins, preserved lemon, toasted almonds and goat’s cheese. It’s citrusy, fresh and healthy, and the almonds and black quinoa give it a nice crunch. Perfect for lunch today before we overindulge on the weekend. Have a great weekend everyone :)

Spring is a great time of year to venture out for a picnic. The air is cool enough that you won’t fade from heat exhaustion. And it’s when gardens start to take shape again. It needn’t be a complicated exercise. The simpler the better. Here are a few essentials.
It will make things a little more comfortable and itch free.
And provides a great surface for an after feed snooze.
Sandwich + napkin
It doesn’t have to be fancy. Ham and salad on a baguette. Done.
Just be careful with things like tomato turning your bread to mush.
And be sure to have a napkin to wipe up messy hands.
Drink + straw
Something with fizz to keep you refreshed.
OK so the straw isn’t an essential, but it looks good.
To keep the glare away and make your snooze more comfortable.
A piece of watermelon is great for warm days like these.
A big juicy apple or sweet pineapple will also do the trick.
When your belly is full lay back and listen to a favourite album.
Did you know that I have a mailing list? On top of the recipes I post already on the blog I’m going to start sending out private recipes to you guys that have subscribed. A little something special to show my appreciation. The first will be watermelon + mint granita with a hint of vodka ;) If you aren’t a subscriber but would like to be then head over here to join us.
I keep saying it but one day I’d love to get a bicycle. I haven’t had one since the spokey dokey days, and even then I didn’t have spokey dokeys. I had a plastic lid taped to the wheel to make motorbike sounds. That was years ago. The thought of getting up early on a weekend and riding down to the markets seems appealing, and ever so hipster as Reid would say. As hipster as it may be, I can understand the obsession with them. There are some really cool looking bikes out there.
Friend Alan Jensen is a professional photographer living in Amsterdam. In his downtime he restores vintage racing bikes. Not a bad side project to have. The bikes he has restored so far are pretty awesome, like the 976 Peugeot P10 one above. Alan updates his site Really Nice Bikes regularly with newly restored pieces. So check them out.
I really need to go shopping. This morning I stared blankly into my wardrobe looking for something fresh and light. An outfit appropriate for the warm day ahead. I ended up in jeans with a simple black tank, threw a long necklace around my neck and that’s about as exciting as it gets. On my scrolling web pages for inspiration I came across the style of Julie Sarinana from blog Sincerely Jules. This woman can wear just about anything and look cool. Here is a little snippet of her style.
